Violin Case Sizes: 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and 4/4 Explained

Violin cases come in fractional sizes that must match the instrument. Buying or producing the wrong size wastes money and protects nothing.

The sizes

  • 1/8: for children, body length ~27cm.
  • 1/4: body ~31cm.
  • 1/2: body ~35cm.
  • 3/4: body ~37cm.
  • 4/4 (full): body ~39-40cm, the standard adult size.

Why fit matters

An oversized case lets the violin rattle; an undersized case cannot close. Cases are shaped internally to match each fractional size, so never guess.

Production considerations

Most factories stock 4/4 molds and make smaller sizes on request. When planning a violin case line, confirm which sizes your target market needs — schools and rentals drive 1/2 and 3/4 demand.
