Keyboards, DJ controllers and mixers all look like “flat electronics with knobs,” but their case needs are very different. Match the case to the gear type and it protects properly.
Keyboards
Keyboards are long and heavy with fragile keys and pitch/modulation controls on the left. Look for rigid bottom support, dense side padding and a padded lid that clears the keys. Weight matters — a keyboard case you can carry makes the difference on daily gigs.
DJ Controllers
Controllers are wide with exposed jog wheels and faders. Choose a case with a recessed, shaped interior that holds the controller in place so faders and wheels never bear weight. Padded dividers for cables are a plus.
Mixers
Mixers are the most fragile — knobs and faders stick up and break off in transit. The case interior must be deeper than the tallest knob/fader, with foam that fits the mixer’s outline. Our canvas mixer gig bag is built for exactly this.
General Rules
- Measure the widest point (with knobs) before ordering.
- Choose padding that is dense enough to hold shape under pressure.
- Check for cable storage — gear without cables is rare.
- For touring, add a rigid-back option or hard case.
