How to Design Custom Guitar Case Interiors: Foam, Velvet and Cradles

The interior is where a case earns its price tag. Here is how premium interiors are built and what to specify.

The Layers

  • Outer shell (wood, ABS, carbon)
  • Impact foam (EPS or PU foam, 15-30mm)
  • Lining (velvet, plush or micro-suede)
  • Accessories pocket (removable in premium builds)

Cradles and Neck Rests

Injection-molded foam cradles hold the body. Neck rests must support the neck without pressure points. Suspension systems (like high-end classical cases) float the instrument on foam cushions.

Color and Branding

Burgundy, cream and charcoal linings are the classics. Add embroidered brand patches or debossed logos on the interior lid for retail shelf appeal.

Spec Sheet Checklist

  • Foam density and thickness per zone
  • Lining fabric and color
  • Cradle contour matching your instrument
  • Pocket size and closure type

We build custom interiors to your instrument drawings – share your CAD or a physical sample and we will match the cradle exactly.
