Airlines can be brutal on instruments. Here is the practical guide we share with musician customers – and the case specs that survive the journey.
Know the Rules
Most carriers allow guitars as carry-on if they fit the overhead bin (many regional jets do not). For checked flight, a rigid case is non-negotiable. Some airlines require signature liability waivers for instruments.
Case Requirements for Flying
- Rigid shell: ABS, carbon fiber or wood, not gig bags
- At least 20mm of padding against the interior shell
- Secure interior cradles that hold the guitar without movement
- TSA-compatible locks so agents do not break latches
Packing Tips
- Loosen strings slightly to reduce neck tension changes
- Pad the headstock area – it is the most fragile zone
- Put fragile stickers on both sides
- Carry humidity packs for long-haul flights
Our flight-ready cases pass airline check-in weight limits and are tested for baggage-system handling. Ask us for the flight test report when sourcing your travel case line.
