Violin Case Buying Guide: What Parents and Teachers Should Look For

Parents and teachers buy most student violin cases. Here is what matters at each price point.

Protection basics

  • Hard shell for school and travel — wood, fiberglass or ABS.
  • Padded bag for storage and short trips.
  • Bow holders: at least 2, with padding between bows.

Comfort and fit

  • Suspension or foam cushions inside — no hard contact with the violin.
  • Shoulder straps and back straps for carrying.
  • Humidity control: hygrometer slot in premium cases.

Teacher checklist

  • Does the case close with a properly fitted 4/4 violin?
  • Are the latches secure and child-friendly?
  • Is there space for music books?
