By use case
- Home/studio (5mm): dust protection only.
- Local gigs (10mm): standard gigging.
- Train/car travel (15mm+): bump protection.
- Premium (20mm+): near semi-hard protection.
How padding is measured
Foam thickness in mm, often on both walls. Ask for the density too — 20kg/m3 low, 30kg/m3 medium, 40kg/m3 high.
What else matters
- Neck support — a padded neck divider.
- Headstock pocket thickness.
- Bottom drop zone — thickest point.
