12-String Guitar Cases: Why Sizing Is Different

12-string guitars are wider and deeper than standard acoustics. Cases sized for 6-strings often do not fit.

Why fit differs

The wider neck (12 tuners) and deeper body need more interior width and depth. Check the lower bout and neck pocket.

What to measure

  • Total length — most run 40-42 in.
  • Lower bout width — 15-16 in typical.
  • Body depth — deeper than 6-string.

Options

  • 12-string specific hard case: best fit.
  • Jumbo case: often fits 12-strings.
  • Gig bag: only for local transport.
