Gig Bags for Electric Guitars: Padding Density Explained

Electric guitar gig bags look similar but protect very differently. Padding density — not just thickness — is the deciding factor.

What padding density means

Density is how tightly foam is packed. High-density foam resists impact; low-density foam squashes flat under pressure. Two bags with the same thickness can protect differently.

Reading a spec sheet

  • Look for EPE or EVA foam in the spec.
  • Ask for density in kg/m3 (20-40 is common; 30+ for pro bags).
  • Check neck support — the neck is the weakest point.

Buyer guidance

  • Student bag: 10mm low-density foam.
  • Mid bag: 15mm medium-density + neck support.
  • Pro bag: 20mm high-density + rigid frame.

We build gig bags across all three tiers. Compare our gig bags or ask for density specs on your OEM order.
