Distributors stocking guitar bags and cases face the same problem: too many models, too little space. A disciplined SKU program solves it. Here is the framework we recommend to wholesale partners.
Build a Core SKU Mix
- 3 instrument categories max to start: electric gig bags, acoustic gig bags, hard cases.
- 2–3 sizes per category: standard, plus one fast-moving variant (e.g. cutaway or bass).
- 1–2 colors per model: black plus one warm tone; more colors multiply SKUs without multiplying sales.
- Straps and accessories: one strap line with 3–4 styles completes the range.
Seasonal Planning
Sales peak around holidays and back-to-school. Place holiday stock orders 8–12 weeks ahead; factory lead time plus sea freight decides the calendar. Review sell-through quarterly and cut slow models ruthlessly — a slow SKU costs warehouse space every month.
Freight and Packing
Cases are bulky, so carton dimensions drive cost. Ask for flat-packed or nested packing where possible, mixed-model container loading, and carton weights under common freight thresholds. Every cm of carton saved is freight saved.
Exclusive Models
Ask your factory for one exclusive color or model per year — it keeps your catalog differentiated and gives retail customers a reason to buy from you. Exclusive minimums are usually modest.
Reorder Discipline
Track units per SKU per quarter. A simple rule: reorder only the top 60% of SKUs, drop the bottom 20%, and trial new models in the middle 20%. This keeps the warehouse lean and the catalog fresh. Start a wholesale program discussion, or review our current catalog.
