Tweed-covered guitar cases have been a staple since the 1950s, and they are still one of our most requested OEM styles. Here is why the retro look continues to sell, and how to execute it properly.
The Tweed Appeal
Tweed cases evoke the golden age of blues, country and early rock. For boutique guitar brands, a tweed case adds perceived vintage value to any instrument. Retailers report higher attachment rates when a tweed case is offered alongside a vintage-style guitar.
Executing Tweed Right
- Fabric: Real woven tweed (not printed imitation) with the characteristic herringbone or twill texture.
- Edging: Genuine leather corners and binding in tan, brown or oxblood.
- Hardware: Brass or gold-tone latches, rivets and hinges for the classic look.
- Interior: Plush red, burgundy or cream lining that contrasts the tweed.
Color Options That Sell
Cream/ivory tweed with brown leather is the classic. Brown tweed with darker leather suits a more understated look. Limited runs in olive or navy tweed do well with lifestyle brands.
OEM Considerations
Wood shell construction is standard for tweed cases to keep the classic weight and rigidity. We offer tweed cases for electric, acoustic and classical guitars with full custom branding on the lid. Request our tweed catalog for wholesale pricing.
