Guitar Case Hardware: Locks, Latches and Handles Buyers Should Spec

Hardware is where cheap cases fail first. A broken latch or ripped handle ruins an otherwise good product. Here is what to specify.

Latches and locks

  • Chrome latches: classic look, reliable, standard on hardshell cases.
  • Combination locks: TSA-friendly, popular on violin and flight cases.
  • Lockable center latch: add a padlock point for travel security.

Handles

  • Leather handles: comfortable, premium, need quality stitching.
  • Rubber/foam handles: durable and grippy, common on ABS cases.
  • Backpack straps: increasingly expected on gig bags and soft cases.

How to test hardware

Open and close every latch 500 times in sampling. Check handle stitching under load (fill the case and lift). Ask for hardware samples before bulk — we always send hardware references with case samples.
