Guitar Case Hardware Guide: Latches, Handles and Locks That Last

Hardware is where premium guitar cases are won or lost. Here is what we spec on every case we manufacture, and what brands should look for when sourcing.

Latches

We use die-cast metal latches with positive spring closure on all hard cases. Cheap plastic latches break within months of touring use. For TSA-compliant lines, integrated TSA locks save customers the hassle of checked-baggage damage.

Handles

A good handle has a steel or rigid core, ergonomic grip and is anchored through the shell, not just glued to the surface. Test the handle at 3x the case weight.

Hinges and Corners

Reinforced hinges prevent lid sag. Metal corner protectors on flight and wood cases absorb the impacts that crack unprotected corners.

Rivets and Screws

Stainless steel rivets and rust-resistant screws matter for humid touring environments. Always specify anti-corrosion hardware in coastal and tropical markets.

Test Before You Commit

Ask your factory for a hardware endurance test: 5,000 open/close cycles and a 30 cm drop test on each corner. If they cannot provide one, that is a red flag. Our cases are tested to this standard before every production run.
