A guitar case takes real abuse — van rides, stage edges, cargo holds. With five minutes of monthly care it keeps protecting your instrument for years. Here is the checklist we recommend to every customer.
Monthly Checks (5 Minutes)
- Zippers: run each zipper fully open and closed. A stiff spot means dirt in the track — brush it out and apply zipper wax or silicone spray.
- Latches: open and close each latch; check screws at the hinges with a small screwdriver. A loose latch stresses the shell.
- Handles: inspect the stitching and mounting points where the handle meets the shell. Replace a fraying handle before it fails.
- Interior: feel the padding and plush lining. Look for wear at corners and where the bridge or headstock rests.
- Exterior: wipe down PU leather with a damp cloth; clean zipper pulls and hardware with a dry cloth.
Seasonal Checks
Before long trips, check the case straps and luggage pass-through, confirm the lock (if any) works, and inspect corner guards for cracks. Before summer storage, wipe the interior and keep the case in a cool, dry room.
When to Replace
A case has done its job when the shell cracks, padding compresses flat, or a zipper splits beyond repair. At that point, replacement costs less than the instrument it protects. Browse replacement hard cases or gig bags.
