Electric guitars are the biggest case category by volume. Here is how OEM buyers should structure an electric case line across three material families.
ABS Molded (Volume)
Injection-molded ABS covers the mass market: durable, waterproof, low price. Standard features – plush interior, one accessory pocket, secure latches. This is 60-70% of the market.
Wood / Tweed (Heritage)
Plywood shells with tweed, leather or other coverings. Higher perceived value, heavier, better for retail display. Sells well at $80-150 retail.
Carbon Fiber (Flagship)
The lightest strong shell. Premium price and premium story – airline travel, touring. Use it for your top 2-3 SKUs to anchor brand perception.
OEM Checklist
- Strat vs LP body shapes need different cradles
- V-shape and offset bodies need custom interiors
- Spec padding density in gig bags: 15/20/25mm tiers
- Confirm latch type and TSA option before tooling
