Keyboard Case Protection: Soft Cases vs Flight Cases for Gigging Musicians

Keyboards and synthesizers travel differently from guitars. They are wide, fragile around the keys and expensive to repair. Choosing between a soft case and a flight case means balancing weight, cost and risk.

Soft keyboard cases are padded fabric bags with internal straps or foam blocks that hold the keyboard in place. They are light, affordable and fine for local gigs and home storage. Look for at least 10-15mm of foam, reinforced corners and a sturdy zipper that runs the full length.

Flight cases are the industry standard for touring. Aluminum or ABS shells with dense foam interiors protect against drops, stacking and road cases loaded on top. They are heavier and more expensive but can save a $2,000 keyboard from a single accident.

Many working musicians now choose a middle path: a semi-rigid case with a hard top and soft sides, giving flight-case-level top protection at gig-bag weight.

We manufacture keyboard cases from padded bags to full flight cases, with OEM/ODM customization including custom foam cutouts, wheel options and brand graphics.
