Ukuleles come in four standard sizes, and each needs a case that fits its body length, depth and headstock. Buying the wrong size is a common mistake — here is the breakdown.
Soprano is the classic 21-inch uke, bright and portable. Its case interior runs about 56-58cm. Concert is slightly larger at 23 inches, needing roughly 61cm. Tenor, the most popular size for professional players, is 26 inches and needs around 66-68cm of interior length. Baritone is the largest at 30 inches — close to a mini acoustic guitar — and requires a case of about 76cm.
Beyond length, check interior depth. Many soprano and concert ukes are thin, but tenor and baritone models with solid wood tops need extra room for the deeper body.
For hard cases, a molded interior that follows the uke’s figure-eight silhouette offers the best protection. For gig bags, look for 10-15mm padding and a soft lining that will not scratch the finish.
