7-String and 8-String Guitar Case Fit: What OEM Buyers Must Measure

Extended-range guitars (7 and 8 strings) are a growing category, but standard electric cases simply do not fit them. Here is what to measure before sourcing.

What Is Different

7-string guitars have longer scale lengths and wider headstocks. 8-strings add more width and neck depth. A standard Strat-style case can crush the headstock or bow the neck.

The Five Measurements

  • Total length (instrument tip to tip)
  • Body width at lower bout
  • Body depth including bridge and knobs
  • Headstock width and angle
  • Neck length and thickness

OEM Tip

When we build extended-depth electric cases, we add 2-3 cm of interior depth and a deeper headstock cradle. Specify ‘extended depth’ on your spec sheet so the factory builds the right mold. Malostation offers dedicated 7- and 8-string case molds with MOQ-friendly runs.
